SBB - Field element of the EULYNX PoC platform

About the Client and the Project

The Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) are actively participating in the European EULYNX initiative, which aims to standardize the interfaces of signaling systems.

As part of this effort, SBB commissioned CSA with the development and implementation of a proof-of-concept platform (PoC) that integrates real trackside devices such as point machines, IO modules, and light signals. The platform is used at the Löwenberg test facility near Murten and enables practical verification of EULYNX-compliant systems under realistic conditions.

 

Our Services

CSA took over the project management and, in collaboration with SBB, developed the system architecture of the overall PoC system.

CSA was also responsible for the design, development, production, assembly, and testing of the trackside devices including their firmware. The defined safety computer from Aviotech was integrated by CSA into a customer-specific computing module, and the required OC functionalities were implemented in software according to EULYNX standards.

Finally, CSA integrated the various system components into a complete system and carried out the testing at the Löwenberg facility together with SBB.

 

Created Value

Thanks to CSA’s expertise in embedded software and hardware development, the PoC platform was developed for SBB in an efficient and effective setup.

SBB now has access to real Object Controllers (OC) including trackside devices, enabling the examination of various topics in a realistic environment. This allows for better system understanding, early detection of problems and challenges, and validation of requirements.

Due to CSA’s professional and collaborative approach, SBB was able to fully focus on its core business and concentrate on the conceptual and especially operational aspects required for the PoC, which they can now test in practice.
