Railway meets aviation

The annual Embedded Computing Conference has become an important meeting point for the industry. Experts gather information on the latest developments at the numerous presentations.

On Tuesday, 31 May 2022, we gave our «Railway meets Aviation» presentation at the ECC.

«Railway meets aviation» – what it’s all about:

Functional safety affects many areas of application and remains a challenge thanks to increasing digitalisation and connectivity. This is because, in modern systems, not only is safety important, but security must also be implemented using future-proof methods. In the railway sector, EULYNX defines a standard for railway infrastructure, on the basis of which it will be possible to implement “safe, secure and interoperable” projects in the future.

Together with partners from the rail sector and industry, SBB is implementing a demonstrator system that shows how points, signals, track occupancy detectors, etc. can be implemented in the future based on EULYNX and connected to digital interlockings.

Concepts and infrastructure from aviation are being used for the implementation. In actual fact, platforms are already in use here that can be deployed securely and independently of each other on a single network of computers.

The presentation highlights the requirements of EULYNX, the concepts of controllers from aviation and how the demonstrator combines the different aspects into one solution. As a development partner, CSA Engineering AG can provide a report on the actual implementation in practice.
